Yesterday was so incredibly sunny it was just about ridiculous, not that I am complaining even a little! I went out and sat on the bit of grass infront of my flat and finished writing a letter. Once that was done, I had a wee sun bath. It was so warm out that it was nearly too hot to be lying there!! I also got just a wee bit sunburnt in a couple places. Mostly this was due to my lack of sunscreen. When I was packing to come here all those many, many months ago I decided I didn't really need any sunscreen because it was Scotland and why on earth would you need sunscreen in Scotland?? I did have a little bit of lotion with sunscreen in it, or, that's what the bottle originally contained.. not sure if that's what was actually in it, but either way my burn should turn into a tan in a day or so anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
Yesterday in general was a really, really good day. It started off at 7am when I got up (yes I know I'm weird in that I actually LIKE getting up early..). I normally go swimming on Saturdays (I'm up to swimming one kilometer every time I go now!) so I got everything all ready and headed over to the pool only to find that it was closed. Then I remembered that it's only open on Saturdays during term time and seeing as the last day of classes was on Friday, term time is now over so I'm going to have to go swimming on Tuesdays and Fridays rather than Tuesdays and Saturdays. Anyway, so I decided to just keep walking because we needed toilet paper and I wanted to buy a frisbee. It was about 10:30 by the time I was walking back to the flat and already it was faar too hot for the jeans and t-shirt I was wearing. Very shortly after changing into more weather sensible clothes was when I went out and sat in the sun. Then let's see.. I played some frisbee with Beth and Mara (Beth's friend). Then around 6 Chris came over with two portable instant barbeques (a very, very handy invention if you don't have a proper barbeque!) and after we all grilled ourselves up some hamburgers and sausages. It was sooooooooooo good!! Especially as the BBQ put on by the Birkbeck Hall Committee the day before had run out of food before Chris and I got to eat any. Although apparently the food at that BBQ was really bland and not all that tasty anyway so we didn't really miss out on much. But the best part of our wee BBQ was the s'mores that we made afterwards!! People over here don't know what s'mores are, probably because graham crackers don't actually exist over here (shocking, I know), so I instructed them all in how to make the perfect s'more. Since we didn't have graham crackers, we used chocolate covered digestive biscuits which are the closest thing taste wise to graham crackers and have the added bonus of already having the chocolate on them, which means that when you put the biscuit on the BBQ, the chocolate melts oh so perfectly. (In case any of you don't know how to make the perfect s'more, you're supposed to put the graham cracker with the chocolate on it on a log near to the fire while you're toasting your marshmallow so that the chocolate melts a wee bit more than if you just plonk a hot marshmallow on it.)
We also thought there were more people eating food than there actually was, so now I have an entire, unopened package of both marshmallows and chocolate digestives in my cupboard, which I really don't need, especially as I already had a full pack of chocolate digestives before the BBQ. Oh well, this way I won't have to buy any for a good long while. :>
