Yesterday was so incredibly sunny it was just about ridiculous, not that I am complaining even a little! I went out and sat on the bit of grass infront of my flat and finished writing a letter. Once that was done, I had a wee sun bath. It was so warm out that it was nearly too hot to be lying there!! I also got just a wee bit sunburnt in a couple places. Mostly this was due to my lack of sunscreen. When I was packing to come here all those many, many months ago I decided I didn't really need any sunscreen because it was Scotland and why on earth would you need sunscreen in Scotland?? I did have a little bit of lotion with sunscreen in it, or, that's what the bottle originally contained.. not sure if that's what was actually in it, but either way my burn should turn into a tan in a day or so anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Yesterday in general was a really, really good day. It started off at 7am when I got up (yes I know I'm weird in that I actually LIKE getting up early..). I normally go swimming on Saturdays (I'm up to swimming one kilometer every time I go now!) so I got everything all ready and headed over to the pool only to find that it was closed. Then I remembered that it's only open on Saturdays during term time and seeing as the last day of classes was on Friday, term time is now over so I'm going to have to go swimming on Tuesdays and Fridays rather than Tuesdays and Saturdays. Anyway, so I decided to just keep walking because we needed toilet paper and I wanted to buy a frisbee. It was about 10:30 by the time I was walking back to the flat and already it was faar too hot for the jeans and t-shirt I was wearing. Very shortly after changing into more weather sensible clothes was when I went out and sat in the sun. Then let's see.. I played some frisbee with Beth and Mara (Beth's friend). Then around 6 Chris came over with two portable instant barbeques (a very, very handy invention if you don't have a proper barbeque!) and after we all grilled ourselves up some hamburgers and sausages. It was sooooooooooo good!! Especially as the BBQ put on by the Birkbeck Hall Committee the day before had run out of food before Chris and I got to eat any. Although apparently the food at that BBQ was really bland and not all that tasty anyway so we didn't really miss out on much. But the best part of our wee BBQ was the s'mores that we made afterwards!! People over here don't know what s'mores are, probably because graham crackers don't actually exist over here (shocking, I know), so I instructed them all in how to make the perfect s'more. Since we didn't have graham crackers, we used chocolate covered digestive biscuits which are the closest thing taste wise to graham crackers and have the added bonus of already having the chocolate on them, which means that when you put the biscuit on the BBQ, the chocolate melts oh so perfectly. (In case any of you don't know how to make the perfect s'more, you're supposed to put the graham cracker with the chocolate on it on a log near to the fire while you're toasting your marshmallow so that the chocolate melts a wee bit more than if you just plonk a hot marshmallow on it.)

We also thought there were more people eating food than there actually was, so now I have an entire, unopened package of both marshmallows and chocolate digestives in my cupboard, which I really don't need, especially as I already had a full pack of chocolate digestives before the BBQ. Oh well, this way I won't have to buy any for a good long while. :>

I have the sweetest, nicest boyfriend ever!!!!! :>

A note of caution... this could turn into quite the mush post. I will attempt to curb the mushness, BUT seeing as the two people who read this have stopped bothering to comment at all... ahem... I can't even really be sure that they do still bother to read it and if no one even reads this then I am fully entitled to be as mushy as I like and there will be no one to complain about it. So there. :>

So yesterday I was invited over to Chris' flat for dinner. Well, it wasn't really an invitation as such. It was more me calling him because I was bored and him being up to his neck in revision for a test the next day, but planning on making mince and dumplings for dinner and did I want to come over later on and help him eat it. Very very sadly I had trampolining, which under normal circumstances I probably would have just skipped, or left rather early, but it was the club competition that night so I thought I should go. I also thought it was the very last trampolining for the year, but turns out we do actually have one more. So anyway, we decided I'd go over to his flat after trampolining was done (round about 9:30). I called Chris after trampolining and was about to head over and he said he had food for me and I thought, sweet, he's saved me some! Turns out he didn't just save me some, he actually waited dinner on me! He waited until just after 10 pm to have dinner so that he could eat with me. Now maybe you reading this are thinking to yourself, well, yes, I would have done the same/expected the same, but I was very touched.

The poems just aren't coming like they do normally. Happiness, while blissful, is not strong enough in and of itself to drive the poems from my head. I suppose that as I use my poems to deal with sadness, anger, resentment, to drive the negative and depressed from within that no poems truly does signify happiness. But I want to write, to express how it is in my head and in my heart. I want to explain, to show just what he means to me, just how he makes me feel. I can write and scribble until paper runs out, but the depth, the raw underside just isn't there. The core that brings life and breath is missing. The words, although well written and eloquent, are only that, words. They can't leap up and take your head between their meaning. They can't move, they can't inspire, they can't even do my happiness justice.

It seems that there is a high percentage of Canadian women who marry Scots, move to Scotland and open up hostels... This was the case with two out of three of the hostels that we stayed in while on the Highland adventure. The woman at the hostel in Glen Nevis was from Ottawa and the one from the hostel in Flodigarry (on Skye) was originally from Saskatchewan but had lived for several years in and around Calgary. Didn't really talk much with the one from Glen Nevis, but I had a very lovely chat with the lady from Flodigarry. (Some mutual moaning about the ridiculously tiny roads over here took place..)

Even though a very, VERY high percentage of the roads here are only about half as wide as normal roads in Canada, I had fun driving on the trip. Apparently being on the other side of the car throws off my judgement of exactly how far to the left or right I am in the road. Also the car we had was rather larger than my wee one at home, which didn't help, but mostly I think it was being on the wrong side of the car. Especially as back home I can drive Ted's Ford F350 Custom Diesel (it's about as wide as a bus and something like 21 feet long...) just fine with no problems at all. But this car? Well.. apparently I was scaring the other passengers juuuuuuuuuuust a bit by being too close to the left side of the road at times. But really, what would you prefer, to scrape along a bit of wall or to crash head on into one or more crazy Scottish drivers going the other way? (And no, I didn't actually hit anything.)

Oh dear.. Poor Chris is in the hospital. Also, this stupid thing just earsed EVERYTHING I WROTE AFTER THIS POINT. Siiiiiiiiiiiiigh.

Right, so it went something like this... Chris caught a really nasty flu bug which decided to wreak all sorts of havok with his control (he's diabetic also and your blood sugars go all wonky, among other nasty things, if you get sick enough) so he's been admitted to the hospital where they can monitor him closely to make sure that he doesn't die on anyone. He should be out either tomorrow or Sunday though so that's good. Hopefully he'll be out by tomorrow though because I leave for France for a week reeeeallllllllly horrifically early on Sunday and won't get to see him before I go otherwise. His mum did say that he was feeling much better today and that his blood sugars have stabilized but his resting heart rate is still waaaaaaaaaaaaay up. It was something like 120 last night... :S So we'll have to see. As long as he gets better soon.

Well I'm back from my Highland adventure and I must say.. I LOVE SKYE!!!! Sooooooooooo nice!!! We were quite lucky and had excellent weather pretty much the entire trip. In fact, it was so sunny that I got a wee bit sunburnt on my face! It's all turned into a mass of freckles now, which is much nicer than being pinkish and a bit sore, but sunburnt!!! In Scotland!!!! Madness. :>

I won't say much about the trip here as it'll all be in the April newsletter. Besides, if I were to sufficiently tell you about the trip.. you would be sitting there for a week reading the rant. (You'll be sitting there for a week reading the newsletter, just to warn you, but at least newsletters are expected to be a bit lengthy and long winded and such.)

In other news.. ummm... hmmm.. Well I leave for the south of France on Sunday! Should be excellent fun (which reminds me.. I have to get Magali to call the camping place again to make sure that they got our first phone call about reserving a space).

Right.. train of thought has officially been lost.. (oops) So more later I suppose!
