I went to a punk show the other day. Normally I don't frequent these sorts of things, but Aaron's band Ender was playing there so I went out to see them. I had planned on bringing someone along because we all know how much I simply love going places with LOTS of people that I don't know. No one could come with me. Everyone was working (boo to work!!). So I did end up going along and let me tell you, I sure felt like I stuck out.. Especially when I first got there.. Well, not when I FIRST got there, but after that.
So as I pull up, Aaron and the rest of the band were just about to leave to go to Chinook to buy one of the guys some booty shorts to wear. (They were QUITE frightening let me tell you.. And he wasn't actually one of the guys in the band.. So we all had to put up with him madly ninja/seizure dancing all night..) Anyhow, after I said hello to Aaron and gave him his birthday card (it was his birthday that day) I went over to where the rest of the people were sitting waiting for things to get going. I have never seen so much black.. Everyone was wearing jeans with either a black shirt, or a black sweater, or a black shirt and a black sweater. There were a select few who were wearing some sort of coloured shirt, but had a black sweater over top. I was wearing a forest green type coloured shirt. Everyone there also had either black hair, blond hair, blond and pink hair or black and pink hair. And there I was with my green shirt and red hair.
So I walked around to the side of the building and parked myself on the sidewalk to wait for either Aaron and crew to get back or for things to start. After a while a few more people wearing coloured clothing came and it started to feel less like I was colour blind. Except for the pink I suppose.
So the show went on and I got a free Ender cd (which Aaron has been promising to give me for about the last year..) and it was actually pretty good. Most of the time you couldn't really hear any music, just either loud screaming or very loud distorted sounds that may have at one time resembled instruments. And then there was the rather amusing ninja/seizure dancing. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, just picture a ton of guys in the middle of a circle kicking their legs and swinging their arms impossibly quickly to the beat of the songs (which was also rather impossibly fast.. This is why it was rather unpleasant to watch the booty-shorted guy dancing..). At one point Aaron joined in and was promptly punched right in the face, breaking his glasses. Good times, good times...
Rochelle was supposed to join me after she was done work, but Ender went on before she could get there, so she didn't bother, especially since there was only one band left anyway. I highly doubt she would have enjoyed the music anyway, being more of an r&b fan. After Ender was done, but before the last band had started, I made plans with Rochelle to go to Tims so I headed out of there. I would have stayed to hang out with Aaron for a while longer, but it was getting late-ish and my right ear was going slightly temporarily deaf, it being the one closest to the speakers.
It's funny.. Up until that night, whenever I pictured Aaron in my mind, I always saw him as he was two years ago, when I first met him. This was why I didn't seem to know him anymore, because obviously he wasn't the same as he was two years ago. But now, for some unknown reason, it's almost impossible to even picture him in my mind as he used to be. I'm kind of sad that I've half lost these memories of him (the memories are still there, but he looks like he does now in my mind), but happy at the same time that he doesn't seem like a stranger to me anymore.
