Drivers are lunatics

Today I was nearly hit by some crazy madman on the road. I think I very nearly had a heart attack.. Well, maybe not, but still. My heart was going pretty good after that.

So Hali and I were driving along lower springbank road on our way into town to return bottles and drop off film and such and we came up to 101 st. This is a nasty intersection because the roads don't intersect at 90 degrees like roads should. Instead, lower springbank road goes straight and 101 st intersects it at an angle. Unfortunately for people going south on 101 st, if they want to do anything other than turn right onto lower springbank, you have to REALLY crane your head around to see if there's anything coming at you. Generally this is not a problem as most people pay attention when they are driving, but not today.

So I was coming up to the road and I saw a car coming to a stop on 101 st. I kept getting closer and they kept sitting there. Then when I was about 20 or 15 feet away, going 85 mind you, they decided that now was a good time to pull out RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and go on their merry way. Luckily my mum's car, which I was driving at the time, has good brakes and also luckily I hadn't gone past 101 st, so I cranked the wheel to the right and turned off lower springbank. By the time I turned off the road I was probably only about 5 feet away from the other car.
It's actually a good thing that the two roads intersect at the funny angle they do, because if I they didn't I probably would have come close to rolling my mum's car going around the corner as fast as I did.

So I had an exciting morning.... Good thing I hadn't picked that time to fiddle with the radio or something.. I actually had a feeling that the car was going to pull out in front of me. Maybe that helped me react as quickly as I did.
