Never get a control freak/perfectionist to renovate your basement... Ted, ohhh, ahhh, with his architectural degree whatnot, would be that control freak.. I don't want to just sit here and slander him, but he is REALLY getting on my nerves.
You see, he is soooooooo ridiculously intent on having the basement absolutely PERFECT, that once it's done, I will very likely NOT be allowed to EVER paint my walls a different colour, let alone paint a mural on one of my walls, like I had planned. Also, I had wanted light coloured carpet in my room so that when I do re-paint my walls, the colour I pick won't clash horribly with the yellowy-brown carpet Ted wants. With some intervention on my mum's part, Ted didn't exactly agree to me being able to have the light carpet and the rest of the basement the darker stuff, but he didn't flat out say no either. So that was good. Until I asked him about the carpet today. Apparantly the lighter stuff was of slightly lesser quality. So I'm not allowed to get it. EVEN THOUGH IT'S MY ROOM AND HE WON'T BE GOING IN IT! So I made a slight fuss about it this morning and said that what if I paint my walls red? It would look horrible. So he said to me that "red isn't going to happen". I'm quite tempted to paint the walls red, even though red isn't my colour of choice, just to spite him. Hali also wanted to paint a tropical scene on her door, but Ted said she wasn't allowed because the doors were too expensive to wreck like that. (His theory is that when she comes to her senses and finds out that she doesn't like the tropical scene, she'll have to re-paint the door, but then you wouldn't be able to see the grain of the wood, yadda yadda, etc..)
It's just so annoying being told that I am not allowed to make the one space in this entire house that is actually mine, mine. Who cares is my room doesn't look like a showhome? The rest of the basement can be all professional and whatnot, but I would prefer my room to actually reflect what I want. What a novel idea....
