So yesterday evening I wrote my EM final (electromagnetism) and don't even think I did ridiculously horrible, then afterwards I went to a Christmas party for all the young adults at my church.
On the way there my car was starting to do some funny things. It's been doing some funny things for a while now, like shuddering when I try and move from a stop. My mum's bf, Ted, said it was the release piston or bearing or something like that in the clutch, but that you could drive for quite a while with it like that as long as you sort of got the engin revved up just a tad before moving. Which worked so all was well.
That is, until the clutch started to have a couple inches where there wasn't any resistance and it was just kind of hanging... Then last night, that got a WHOOOOOOOOOLE lot worse. Now rather than just hanging for a couple inches... It was hanging the entire way EXCEPT for a couple inches. Not good. Then it started getting really hard to shift into any gear, especially first. So I was nearly where I needed to be and my car was still behaving somewhat when I missed the road I was supposed to turn onto. So I made a nice little detour... and missed the road coming from the other direction. I didn't realize that there was a concrete divider between the turning lane and the rest of the road and I had been all the way over in the right lane when I wanted to turn left. Needless to say, I didn't get into the turning lane and there was honking and probably cursing behind me, so I was forced to go the wrong way AGAIN. This is when my car REALLY started hating me.. Because now, it wouldn't shift into ANYTHING! I'd pulled into a parking lot so I could turn around and it ground horribly when I put it into reverse, but then when I got all backed up, it wouldn't go into first so I was stuck there, right in the entrance of the parking lot, blocking traffic. Luckily there was no traffic at the moment to block, but still.
So finally with some very strategic shifting I got out of the parking lot and now just had to hope that I wouldn't get stopped at a light and get stuck there. I did get very stuck a little later, but it was on a smaller street and there was no one behind me so it was ok.
So I finally pull up to the house where I'm supposed to be..... and get stuck again. There were two people I knew right next to where I got stuck and I asked them if they could maybe just push me into a parking spot on the street, but luckily I got it into first and was able to pull over to the side of the road.
All in all the party was good despite my rather stressful arrival (I even got a very flowery coconut bra in the gift exchange we did. I'm planning on giving it to Hali for Christmas along with the tropical calendar I bought her) and my car was towed to a garage near my house. Hopefully they'll have it fixed before too long.
