I carved a pumpkin today. :> Hopefully it will only be the first of many.
I did one last year, but it had been sitting outside for quite a while and froze. I didn't think this was a problem except that it was REALLY cold when I was trying to carve it. So I carved my grim reaper into it and it looked super-awesome (except that I kept accidentally cutting things out that shouldn't have been cut out and had to hold everything together with toothpicks) and I left it on my kitchen table and went to bed. The next morning I came upstairs and found that my pumpkin had melted and there was a big puddle of pumpkin juice all over the table and my chair and the floor. Apparantely once pumpkins freeze they become veeeeeeerrrrryyyyy mushy, so when it defrosted there was nothing but pumpkin mush. And unfortunately for me I don't think I got a picture of it before it deflated. If I did I don't know where it went.
So this year I went out and bought a pumpkin carving kit (much easier than using an exacto knife!!) and I have a cute little owl carved on my pumpkin. I think I may do the grim reaper again this year, and actually do it properly, but we'll see.
